Back in January I had the privilege of photographing a gorgeous in home elopement in Lexington, KY. Rachael and Joe opted for a small wedding amongst their closest friends in their plant filled living room. Rachael was stunning in a sleek silky dress and Joe’s maroon get up was certainly a show stopper. After a quick heartfelt ceremony the friends shared charcuterie before heading out to a favorite restaurant to celebrate their nuptials.
This celebration of union represented everything I love most– intentional weddings that are about YOU. An in home elopement is just another example that there is beauty in simplicity. When it comes down to it, marriage is all about the love between two people. While that extra fluff can be fun, in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter.
So let Rachael and Joe be your inspiration to celebrate your wedding day in a way that feels authentic to you and your relationship. Don’t feel pressured to have the big shabang if that’s not your vibe. If staying at home with your dog and besties calls to you, DO IT. If having that big 300 person wedding with all your family and friends has always been your dream, DO IT. Just don’t let anyone dictate what your wedding day should look like.
