Louisville Rainy Day Engagement Photos at Nouvelle Bar

Rain on your engagement session day doesn’t have to mean rescheduling.

In fact, sometimes it means finding a location that’s even more fun than the original plan. That was exactly the situation with Devon and Ryan.

The forecast was looking pretty nasty, and Devon reached out looking for somewhere we could photograph their engagement session without battling the nasty weather.

My suggestion for Louisville rainy day engagement photos? Nouvelle Bar & Bottle in Louisville’s Nulu neighborhood.

A Rainy Day Engagement Session in Louisville

One of the trickiest parts of planning engagement photos in Louisville is figuring out what to do when the weather is nasty.

There are plenty of beautiful indoor locations for photos around Louisville, but many of them require some sort of photography permit or advanced reservation for professional sessions. When the forecast is changing by the hour, the last thing you want to do this is the last thing you want to worry about.

That’s why I love having a few of these indoor unicorn options in my back pocket. Nouvelle was one of those places that immediately came to mind.

It’s cozy, moody, intimate, and has enough visual interest that your photos can still be super fun.

Why I Love Nouvelle for Engagement Photos

Nouvelle Bar & Bottle is located at 214 S. Clay Street in Louisville’s NuLu/East Market area. It’s a neighborhood wine bar and bottle shop with a relaxed and intimate atmosphere that makes it a really fun backdrop for couples who want their engagement photos to feel less traditional (plus, the staff is always so kind!) (Nouvelle)

There’s something about photographing a couple in a place where they could actually imagine spending an evening together that also makes a session soooo much less stiff.

Instead of standing in front of a pretty tree or walking through a park, you’re sitting together, sharing a drink, laughing, talking, and doing something that feels like a normal date you would actually plan.

You Don’t Have to Look Like You’re “Taking Photos”

This is one of my favorite things about an engagement session in a place like Nouvelle. Not every photograph has to feel like a posed photograph.

Sometimes you’re just talking. Sometimes you’re laughing at something your partner said. Sometimes you’re sharing a drink.

That’s especially helpful if you’re the kind of couple who tells me, “We’re awkward in photos.”

You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to know what to do with your hands. You don’t need to perform for the camera. You just need to spend some time together.

For sessions like this Nouvelle does not require a separate photography permit. Instead, couples should plan to open a tab and purchase at least one drink for each person in the party.

Because policies can change, I always recommend checking with Nouvelle directly before your session to confirm their current expectations. They have always been incredibly kind, helpful, and responsive to phone calls.

Having a glass of wine during your engagement session sounds a lot more fun than standing around in a parking lot wondering if the rain is going to stop.

So if you’re looking for a Louisville rainy day engagement photos spot, Nouvelle is the place!

There’s something especially beautiful about a wedding that brings together so many people you love in one place. For Mikayla and Cam, that meant a summer wedding in the heart of Chicago, surrounded by lush greenery, their closest people, and a guest list of nearly 230 friends and family. From getting ready at the JW […]

Some shoots live in your head for a few weeks. This one lived in mine for a full year. I had been dreaming up an all blue editorial shoot on the Utah salt flats long before we ever arrived. I knew I wanted something bold, fashion forward, a little unexpected, and completely immersed in the […]
