Some shoots live in your head for a few weeks.
This one lived in mine for a full year.
I had been dreaming up an all blue editorial shoot on the Utah salt flats long before we ever arrived. I knew I wanted something bold, fashion forward, a little unexpected, and completely immersed in the landscape.
For this Utah photographers retreat, we traded the traditional wedding editorial for something a little more unexpected.

This shoot was part of the same Utah photographers retreat hosted by Sydney Darwin Photography and Haley of Times to Toast, bringing together photographers for a day of shooting, learning, creating, and connecting.
After spending so much time dreaming up this particular concept, it was incredibly special to watch it become a real experience for the photographers who attended.
The goal was never to create something that looked like every other wedding editorial, I wanted it to feel like a world of its own.
The Details
One of my favorite parts of this shoot was how intentionally every detail played into the blue color story.
Both suits were provided by House of K Boutique, and we built the rest of the design around them, from the florals and unique boutonnieres to the serpentine tablescape and all of those little blue moments throughout the scene.
Styled shoots are one of my favorite ways to play creatively because there are no rules saying everything has to look like a traditional wedding.
You can follow an idea simply because you think it would be beautiful.
Build a color palette around a feeling.
You can put two men in impeccably tailored suits in the middle of the salt flats and create something that feels completely unexpected.
