We came here for a Utah styled shoot at the pink lake.
We got a reflective lake instead.
And honestly? We’re not mad about it.
For our photographers’ styled retreat, we brought together six incredible attendees at Stansbury Viewpoint in Utah. Our original plan was to photograph the famous pink waters, but when we arrived, the lake was decidedly… not pink.
The color of Utah’s salt lakes can vary depending on factors like salinity, temperature, sunlight, water levels, and the microorganisms living in the water. So while the conditions can create those famous pink, red, and orange tones, sometimes the lake decides to give you something completely different.
We decided to embrace it.
And so, the Reflective Lake Shoot was born.

This retreat was hosted by Sydney Darwin Photography and Haley of Times to Toast, bringing together photographers from different places for a day of shooting, learning, creating, and connecting.
It was very hot.
The lake wasn’t pink. But sometimes the best creative work happens when the plan doesn’t quite go according to plan.
