Kamryn & Drake’s Berry Hill Mansion Wedding

There’s something especially beautiful about a wedding that feels completely true to the couple getting married.

For Kamryn and Drake, that meant a wedding day filled with soft pastels, light and airy details, and a romantic atmosphere at the historic Berry Hill Mansion in Frankfort, Kentucky.

From Tinder to Forever

Six years before their wedding day, Kamryn and Drake met on Tinder.

After texting and getting to know each other, they planned their first date: ice cream at Graeter’s.

Kamryn, who says she was usually cautious about getting into a car with someone she had never met (and girllll I get it), decided to break one of her own rules and asked Drake to pick her up from her dorm.

They got their ice cream, sat in the car talking for hours, and apparently that was all it took.

They’ve been together ever since.

I love stories like this because there’s something so wonderfully ordinary about the beginning: two people getting ice cream and talking for hours, that eventually becomes something extraordinary.

A Private Mountain Proposal

Drake’s proposal was just as personal.

The couple was spending a weekend at an Airbnb in the mountains of Georgia when they decided to go for a hike. While they were stopped at an overlook, Kamryn was taking photos of the mountains when she turned around and found Drake down on one knee.

It was quiet, private, and completely theirs.

And perhaps my favorite part of the story is what happened afterward.

For the rest of the afternoon, they were the only two people in the world who knew they were engaged.

After their hike, they celebrated with a post-adventure feast at Olive Garden before finally calling their loved ones to share the news. And I think that is so special.

A Romantic Berry Hill Mansion Wedding

For their wedding, Kamryn and Drake chose Berry Hill Mansion in Frankfort, Kentucky, a historic property with expansive grounds.

The Berry Mansion was built in 1900 by George Franklin Berry and his wife, Mary, and sits on a bluff overlooking the Kentucky State Capitol and the city of Frankfort. Today, the historic property is available for weddings, receptions, and other special events.

Soft Pastels & Light, Airy Details

Kamryn and Drake described their wedding-day aesthetic as light and airy with soft pastels, and it’s a beautiful choice for Berry Hill Mansion.

Rather than following a trend simply because it’s popular, their wedding reflects something much more meaningful: choosing a design because it feels like you.

And that’s exactly the advice Kamryn has for other couples in the early stages of planning their own weddings.

“Be true to your likes and interests! Don’t let others or social media make you feel like your wedding needs to look or feel a certain way.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Of course, as a wedding photographer, I love the beautiful details.

I love the dress, the flowers, the invitations, the tables, the carefully chosen colors, and all the little things that couples spend months planning.

But those details aren’t really the point.

They’re the setting for the moments that matter.

The nerves before the ceremony.

The excitement of finally seeing each other.

The hugs from family.

The laughter with friends.

The moment you realize that the person you’ve loved for years is now your husband or wife.

And then there’s that strange, wonderful feeling at the end of the night when you realize the wedding you’ve spent so long planning is suddenly over, and your actual marriage is just beginning.
